I went to a place we were invited to with a Swiss friend and her daughter, who had returned from living in South Africa, and found that a total of 10 people had gathered there, including a Finn, an Italian, a Korean who had been adopted as a child, and three Ukrainian war refugees.

Italian, French, English, and German were used for communication, and the Ukrainians were using translation apps, so the meal was proceeding in a friendly atmosphere.

The spacious living room wasn’t very brightly lit due to the Finnish-style candlelight decorations on all sides, but I heard a strange sound from across the way. When I looked, I saw my friend’s daughter getting up and waking her mother.

At first glance, my friend’s head was severely tilted back, his mouth agape, and his body slumped; he didn’t look like a person from this world.
